Picasso in Fontainebleau The Museum of Modern Art presents Picasso in Fontainebleau, a focused exhibition examining three months in a legendary artist’s career, when he created an astonishingly varied body of work between July and September 1921 in the town of Fontainebleau, France. This exhibition reunites four monumental works on canvas, both versions of Picasso’s Three Musicians and Three Women at the Spring, with the other paintings, drawings, etchings, and pastels he made in Fontainebleau. Encompassing both cubist and classicizing styles, these works are presented together for the first time since their creation in Picasso’s makeshift garage studio and complemented by never-before-seen photographs and archival documents.
The Museum of Modern Art de Nueva York presenta Picasso in Fontainebleau, una exposición enfocada en examinar tres meses en la carrera de un legendario artista, entre julio y septiembre de 1921, en los que creó un cuerpo de trabajo asombrosamente variado en la ciudad de Fontainebleau, Francia. Esta exposición reúne las cuatro monumentales obras sobre lienzo, dos versiones de Tres músicos y Tres mujeres en la fuente, con otras pinturas, dibujos, aguafuertes y pasteles que Picasso realizó en su garaje improvisado. The Museum of Modern Art présente Picasso in Fontainebleau, une exposition ciblée examinant trois mois de la carrière de l’artiste légendaire, une période entre juillet et septembre 1921 pendant laquelle il crée une œuvre étonnamment variée dans la ville de Fontainebleau, France. Cette exposition réunit ses quatre peintures monumentales, toutes deux des versions de Trois Musiciens et Trois femmes à la fontaine, ainsi que d’autres œuvres importantes sur toile, de nombreux peintures préparatoires, dessins, eaux-fortes et pastels réalisés à Fontainebleau. Cette exposition est la première fois que ces œuvres seront présentées ensemble depuis leur création dans l’atelier de Picasso. Comprenant à la fois les styles cubiste et académique, ces œuvres sont complétées par des photographies et des documents d’archives inédits.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the artist’s death, MoMA’s exhibition is included in the international Picasso Celebration 1973–2023, with the exceptional support of the Musée National Picasso-Paris.
