Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge

Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge

Focuses on the life and work of Diane Von Furstenberg, who created a name for herself in a field that was predominantly male and amassed a multi-million dollar fashion empire.

Diane von Furstenberg was 22 years old when she had an idea that would change the fashion industry forever. The wrap dress was celebrated as a symbol of feminine power and liberation when it was first introduced in the 1970s, launching von Furstenberg’s career as a designer and successful businesswoman. But this wasn’t von Furstenberg’s first time in the spotlight and it wouldn’t be her last.

Including interviews with friends like Hillary ClintonOprah Winfrey, and Fran Lebowitz, Tribeca alumni Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Trish Dalton’s wildly entertaining portrait goes behind the scenes with Furstenberg herself as she prepares for a museum exhibition showcasing her life’s work. Through these intimate recollections, we accompany von Furstenberg on a glamorous whirlwind tour of her life from her marriage to a German prince to her wild nights as a Studio 54 “It” girl to her ‘90s renaissance and beyond. These combine with the story of her mother, a Holocaust survivor whose influence shaped her into the determined, independent “woman in charge” she is today.––Cara Cusumano
